San Gimignano is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the Umbria-born Renaissance painter Bernardino di Betto, known as Pintoricchio.
Pintoricchio, an assistant of Perugino in his early years, spent periods of time in Siena and the exhibition displays the masterpieces he produced while living in the Tuscan town, such as the Madonna in gloria tra i santi Gregorio Magno e Benedetto, La Madonna col Bambino e San Giovannino, La Sacra Famiglia e San Giovannino, la 狈补迟颈惫颈迟脿.
In 1502, Cardinal Francesco Piccolomini Todeschini (later Pope Pius III), bishop of Siena, commissioned Pintoricchio to decorate a room in the Duomo of Siena, the Piccolomini Library. In 1504, Pintoricchio designed a mosaic floor panel for the Cathedral, and later painted several frescoes.
The exhibition is a great opportunity to learn more about the work of a great Renaissance artist.
