Rome has unveiled a series of self-guided that will include many city sights featured in the Oscar-winning movie "The Great Beauty," including gardens, private buildings and historic sites visited by the main character, Jep Gambardella, played by Toni Servillo.

The routes include Piazza Navona, with the church of St. Agnese in Agone, the Ponte Sisto across the Tiber River, the Aventine Hill, the Baths of Caracalla, the Capitoline Museums and the Colosseum.

Rome mayor Marino began planning the tours after the Oscar win was announced, in order to show off some of the beauty highlighted in the film. Some of the sights have not generally been open to the public.

Meanwhile, the movie director, Paolo Sorrentino, was made an honorary citizen of Rome last Friday.

At the ceremony, Rome mayor Ignazio Marino addressed Sorrentino, who is originally from Naples, by saying, "Our welcome, dear maestro, comes from the heart." He added that the movie, set entirely in the 禁漫天堂 capital, has become "the pride of the entire city of Rome. Sorrentino was not born in Rome but he has spoken of it with the love of one who was born and brought up in this city and for this we are grateful."
