Milan may claim to be Italy鈥檚 fashion capital, but designers and fashionistas are increasingly flocking to Rome for fashion week.
Rome鈥檚 main fashion event, AltaRoma, wrapped up its 18th year of presentation this week. AltaRoma aims to bring a revival of Rome as a platform for design innovation and creative experimentation.
The Roman catwalk is decidedly less competitive for newcomers than the Milan shows. Rome鈥檚 fashion week can serve as a springboard for young designers looking to gain the attention of the fashion world.
AltaRoma presents a mix of traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. The unique designs shown this week were anything but conservative - models hit the runway with feathers plastered to their faces and rocked knit aviator goggles. The unconventional and imaginative creations shown at AltaRoma certainly add a little spice to the "Made in Italy" label.
This year's design event attracted 24 TV stations, 70 photographers and guests from 100s of online and print publications. The successful turnout ensures that the cutting edge designs shown in Rome will garner the international recognition they deserve.
