There’s no better place to try cappellacci di zucca (hand-made pasta filled with pumpkin) than the Po Valley area, where the dish hails from. And because this is a time when sagre abound, there is one currently going on that is entirely dedicated to pumpkin cappellacci: Sagra della zucca e del suo cappellaccio.
The sagra is held in San Carlo in the province of Ferrara, every day until August 31 (opens at 7:30 pm – Sundays 12:30 pm and 7:30 pm).
The event features a number of stands with typical local products, crafts and music shows.
The tasty menu will of course be mostly based on pumpkin: cappellacci di zucca with ragù or butter and sage, cappellacci di zucca with walnuts and marsala, cappellacci di zucca with boar ragù, cappellacci di zucca with stracchino and truffle, and more; for second courses, there will be meat-based dishes from the local tradition.
Are you drooling yet?
All proceeds from the sagra will be used for initiatives to benefit the local community.Â
