90 cities around Italy will hostthe second annual FAI Marathon on Sunday, the only marathon where eyes count more than legs.
The event is a non-competitive marathon whose aim is to help s discover the treasures that surround them in everyday’s life and motivatethem to protect their artistic and environmental heritage. “Too often we take for granted the beauty that surround us. FAI Marathon serves this purpose, to open our eyes and rediscover the splendid corners that surround us,” FAI (Fondo Ambiente o) writes on its Facebook page.
Marathon participants will fund the campaign “Ricordati di salvare l’Italia” (Don’t forget to save Italy), promoted by FAI until October 27.
Historic buildings and shops, theaters, courtyards, churches, squares and gardens – the race’s routes will touch on treasures that often need funds to be taken care of and preserved.
Some of the monuments include: Teatro Margherita in Bari, Palazzo Litta in Milan, the Pantheon in Rome, Certosa e Museo di San Martino in Naples and the Giardino Bardini in Florence.
