This year鈥檚 lineup includes the two main prizewinners from both the Venice and Rome Film Festivals: Gianfranco Rosi鈥檚 documentary "Sacro GRA" and Alberto Fasulo鈥檚 docudrama "Tir".
The festival showcases the work of both established directors as well as new talents, with in-person appearances at many screenings. Among them is Pierfrancesco Diliberto, known as Pif, who will present the North American premiere of his debut film, 鈥淭he Mafia Only Kills in Summer鈥, on June 7 at 3:30 pm.
The film tells the fictional story of Arturo (Diliberto), a guy born and raised in Palermo during the 1970s and 1980s, two decades marked by a bloody war for Mafia supremacy. Through satire and a dark comedy style, Diliberto shows how regular people coped living side by side with corrupt politicians and Cosa Nostra's mobsters in Palermo. ITALY Magazine interviewed Pif earlier this year about the film and its message. You can read the interview here.
Another screening of the film is scheduled on June 12 at 4 pm.
