The largest gay pride parade in Europe has drawn the attention of a larger than life performer. The Europride 2011 committee has announced that international sensation Lady Gaga will take the stage at the events closing ceremonies on the 11th of June.

Lady Gaga, who has ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ-American roots herself, will appear at the event free of charge.

The pop star has long been embraced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The single from her album ‘Born this Way’ has become a kind of anthem for gay pride demonstrations around the world.

The singer will join the parade finale near Rome’s Termini Station. Lady Gaga will march with demonstrators to the Circus Maximus and there take the stage to rally the crowd with a hit song.

The president of Italy's national gay rights organization believed Lady Gaga’s presence would help the cause. “Now EuroPride can launch a clear signal on an international level (concerning) the absence of rights in Italy," wrote Fabrizio Marrazzo.

Europride is often seen as the most important gay rights demonstration in Europe. The event travels to a new European capital each year.
