½ûÂþÌìÌà Coffee Prices on the Rise

The price of ordering a caffe at the bar is going up and consumers can expect to pay even more for their coffee fix in the coming years. The price increase over the past decade means coffee drinkers are now shelling out € 2.9 billion more a year.

From 2000 to 2011, the price of a cup increased 25.3%, with the average price of an ½ûÂþÌìÌà coffee now standing at €1, and as high as €1.50 in Milan.

Every day, the nation drinks about 80 million coffees at the bar. Assuming a price increase of 10 cents, that amounts to €8 million a day, or an incredible €2.9 billion more a year.

The baristas are not to blame. Speculation on the commodities market has caused the price of coffee and chocolate to skyrocket. Bars have no choice but to pass the international increase on to their ½ûÂþÌìÌà patrons.
