How to Say: Seasons and Weather

Spring is finally here and with the recent change of season, we thought we鈥檇 devote our weekly 鈥How to Say鈥 post to learning words and expressions related to seasons and the weather. After all, talking about "il tempo" -the weather- is an easy conversation starter and this way you can practice your 禁漫天堂 with the locals!

The four seasons 鈥 stagioni 鈥 are:

Primavera 鈥 spring

Estate 鈥 summer

Autunno 鈥 fall or autumn

Inverno 鈥 winter

If you want talk about the weather in a particular season, use "in" before the season, i.e., "in estate fa caldo"聽(it's hot in the summer), 鈥in inverno fa freddo鈥 (it's cold in the winter). 聽

E鈥 bello / Fa bel tempo - It's nice

E鈥 brutto / Fa brutto tempo - It's bad

C'猫 il sole - It's sunny

C鈥櫭 vento or E鈥 ventoso 鈥 It鈥檚 windy

E鈥 nuvoloso - It's cloudy

C鈥櫭 nebbia 鈥 it鈥檚 foggy

Piove 鈥 It鈥檚 raining

Grandina - It's hailing

Nevica 鈥 It鈥檚 snowy

E鈥 umido 鈥 it鈥檚 humid

Fa freddo - It's cold, or Fa un gran freddo! It鈥檚 really cold

Fa un freddo gelido 鈥 it鈥檚 freezing

Fa caldo - It's hot, or Fa troppo caldo! It鈥檚 too hot

Fa fresco - It's cool

E鈥 variabile 鈥 It鈥檚 changeable
