If you’ve always dreamed about getting married in Italy, this year may be the perfect time: the central region of Lazio (where Rome is located) is offering a €2,000 reimbursement to couples who get married in the region between 1 January and 31 December 2022.
The scheme, dubbed ‘In Lazio with Love,’ is open to and foreign couples who spend money on Lazio-based wedding services, including wedding planners, wedding attire, venues, catering, flowers, car hire and photographers.
The region has allocated 10 million euros for the initiative and newlyweds can submit their reimbursement applications until the end of January 2023 or until funds run out. Each couple can request a reimbursement for a maximum of five receipts and no more than €2,000 total for expenses incurred between 14 December 2021 and 31 January 2023.
The investment is aimed at boosting the wedding and tourism sectors in the region, badly hit by the pandemic.
In talking about the scheme, the president of Lazio Nicola Zingaretti has emphasized the riches of the region, which, he said, boasts “many locations among the most magical and fascinating in the world thanks to an unparalleled cultural heritage.”
Indeed, there’s no shortage of stunning wedding locations to choose from, from the Eternal City itself (imagine the backdrop for your wedding photos!) to hilltop medieval towns, historic castles, romantic villas, lakeside venues (Lake Bracciano and Lake Bolsena are especially popular), or even along the coast (Sperlonga, San Felice Circeo, Sabaudia, the Pontine Islands).
Italy is a favorite wedding destination with celebrities and among those who have chosen Lazio to get married the most famous may be Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (now divorced), who married at Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano in 2006 as the sun set over the lake. Among their guests were Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham. More recently, Lady Kitty Spencer, the niece of Princess Diana, wed Michael Lewis at Villa Aldo Brandini in Frascati near Rome during a luxurious ceremony in 2021.
Detailed information and forms are available on the region’s (currently the page is in only).
