Visitors to Eataly New York can now get an up-close view of one of Italy’s most famous and beloved churches: the Duomo of Milan.
Eataly New York is in fact hosting an exhibition, "Eataly per Duomo," which features a curated collection of historically significant pieces from the Duomo, including the statue of Santa Lucia, an image of the Holy Virgin, and an assortment of architecturally unique gargoyles.
The exhibit is a celebration of Expo 2015, which will be hosted by the Duomo's birth city, Milan. Located in the vestibule just past La Piazza, the exhibit is free and open to the public through May 2015.
“We, as s, all have a duty to preserve the legacy of our past by sharing it with the world,” said Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti. “This is our chance to ensure that one of the most acclaimed artistic remains will exist for our future generations. Culture, food, and art are our greatest resources to make this happen.”
Eataly has partnered with the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, the institution founded in 1387 to build and preserve the Duomo, to establish a fundraising organization, International Patrons of Duomo di Milano Inc., in order to raise money for the restoration of the monument by May 1, 2015, the day the Expo begins, through the campaign, “?”
Eataly New York is also an official ticket vendor for Expo Milan 2015. More than 20 million visitors are expected during the event’s six-month run.
