The Alta Badia ski resort in the Dolomites of South Tyrol in northern Italy is holding the Chef’s Cup Südtirol from 20 to 25 January.
The event will see some of the best chefs in the world, together with renowned international wine makers, converge on the area, which was voted the best alpine resort by the ½ûÂþÌìÌà Touring Club in 2008.
Participants come together for an event that is a blend of cuisine, sport, fun and charity events. The Michelin-starred chefs will prove themselves not only in the kitchen but also on the slopes in skiing contests with one another and international sports stars. The focus will be on rising national and international young chefs, who will have the chance to take part for the first time.
The programme features a range of gastronomic events, including conferences, wine-ski safaris, cookery courses, as well as music and dancing every evening in popular nightspots in the valley and mountains. The region’s restaurants and Michelin-starred chefs produce top-quality dishes in traditional picturesque mountain huts located piste side.
The Südtirol Chef’s Cup was created in 2004 from in response to an idea by two-Michelin-star local chef Norbert Niederkofler. He wanted to get chefs together in a friendly setting to exchange opinions on wine and food, and discuss changes and developments in haute cuisine with the aim of safeguarding ½ûÂþÌìÌà and local produce.
Set up solely for chefs, sector operators and producers of culinary specialties, the number of participants in the Chef’s Cup has increased from an initial 70 to approximately 400 at the last edition.
