Five Museums Not to Miss in Rome
We know that if you're visiting Rome for the first time and don't have too much time in the city, you don't want to skip certain fantastic museums such as the Vatican Museums and Galleria Borghese. But if you've visited a few times, or are simply curious about other less popular venues housing significant collections and works of art, below you can find some suggestions.Â
Palazzo Braschi for example, a large Neoclassical palace located near Piazza Navona, houses the Museo di Roma, which covers the period from the Middle Ages through the 19th century.
Villa Torlonia and its surrounding gardens, formerly belonging to the Torlonia family and designed by the neo-Classic architect Giuseppe Valadier, was for some time the home of Mussolini, who rented it from the Torlonias for one lira a year to use as his state residence.
And let’s not forget about the Ara Pacis of Augustus, inaugurated in 9 BC, housed inside the Museum of the Ara Pacis, the first great architectural and urban intervention in the historic center of Rome since the Fascist era, whose style follows that of Imperial Rome.
